Horse Riding in Morocco: Anna Twinney, The Woman Who Speaks to Horses

Anna Twinney, a world-famous horsewoman, speaks to horses, which she believes have a universal and unchanging language, regardless of breed or origin. Recently, she dropped her luggage in Morocco.

We knew “the man who whispered in the ear of horses”. We now know the woman who speaks to them. Anna Twinney, internationally renowned American rider, specialist in the rehabilitation of equines and founder of the association “Reach Out to Horses” (“A hand extended to horses”, in French) was recently on a trip to Morocco to transmit to her Moroccan colleagues its methods of communication, based on non-violence.

“It doesn’t matter where I travel, the issues people have with their horses are very similar ,” she explains to the equestrian news site Horsetalk . “Morocco is no exception (…) In order to solve a problem, you must first find out what is causing it and not try to solve it automatically or with a quick fix. This can only be resolved through communication ,” she teaches.

Mastering the language of horses, ‘Equus’, would open up invaluable horizons for more training and cooperation between rider and horse, says Anna Twinney. It helps to actually find out, she says. It is necessary to establish with each of them codes for an understanding which would make better this relation between the Man and the animal. “The Equus language is almost entirely non-verbal. While horses have the ability to vocalize, the nuances of their language are in the captions, only visible to those who speak it fluently.”

A workshop in Morocco and Elsewhere

In Morocco, Anna Twinney presented her work to several riders. What do they take away? A creative, communicative and cooperative approach, a work without violence where each horse is treated as an individual. Most have discovered a facet of this animal that they did not even suspect.

Anna Twinney’s journey into animal communication began over twenty years ago. After finding the missing piece to the puzzle, she understood that she had to share her knowledge. Known worldwide for her exceptional abilities, her specific and verifiable methods as well as an in-depth knowledge of horses, this equine lover continues to discover and develop particularly effective communication techniques during her tours.
